Unicode Consortium
   Fondé en janvier 1991 pour développer l’Unicode, l’Unicode Consortium regroupe des sociétés informatiques, des sociétés commerciales, des concepteurs de logiciels, des organismes de recherche et différents groupes d’usagers. A cette date, l’échange des données s’internationalise, et ne peut donc plus se limiter à l’utilisation de l’anglais et de quelques langues européennes encodées en ASCII (American standard code for information interchange), un système de codage datant de 1968. L’Unicode Consortium développe donc l’Unicode, un système de codage sur 16 bits spécifiant un nombre unique pour chaque caractère et permettant de traiter 65.000 caractères uniques, à savoir tous les systèmes d’écriture de la planète. L’Unicode Consortium fournit aussi les explications techniques nécessaires aux usagers potentiels. L’utilisation de l’Unicode commence à se généraliser en 1998.
